Nursing Pathway: Will lead to the Practical Nursing Program.
Practical Nursing Program
The program will allow students to acquire the knowledge and skills needed in the health care environment in accordance with the latest standard practices. Students are expected to gain expertise in handling patients with ethical care while providing safe and sound judgment in delivering services. Learners will be able to develop globally competitive skills through the use of the latest technology and simulation in nursing labs.
PNs formulate or modify the necessary nursing care plan in accordance with the data and evidence-based practice guidelines. Practical Nurses communicate with the entire health care team and promote holistic care by assessing the overall well-being of the individual.
Program Type: Post-secondary program
Program Length: 4 semesters (2 years)
Credential: Ontario College Diploma
Pre-qualification: Internationally Educated Nurses (IEN) may complete the program within a year through the Practical Nursing Bridging Program.
Nursing Pathway: Graduates are eligible to apply for the Registered Practical Nurses (RPN) in Ontario and may push their professions to a Registered Nurse.
Bridging to University Nursing (including IEN)
This program holds a high-level credential in a Nursing career and aims to develop a solid foundation in nursing practice. Care will be delivered in a wide range of settings involving different individuals with unique needs. Due to the complexity of skills needed, students are prepared by promoting applied knowledge in clinical settings with the help of highly-trained instructors.
Nurses apply the general skills needed and incorporate research-based knowledge in order to effectively deliver the level of care required by an individual. Due to the dynamic field of this career, Nurses carry out constant self-development to ensure competency in complex health care situations.
Program Type: Graduate Certificate Program
Program Length: 2 semesters (1 year)
Credential: Ontario College Graduate Certificate
Pre-qualification: Internationally Educated Nurses (IEN) requiring updated learning as identified by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO.)
Nursing Pathway: Graduates are eligible to apply for a general certificate of registration with the CNO. Nurses may also extend further learning and become a Nurse Practitioner or apply to a post-diploma PN to BScN Program at a different provider such as a university.
